The Steamboat Springs Winter Carnival is an annual five-day event held in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, in February, celebrating the town’s Western heritage and love for winter sports. It’s known for its unique blend of cowboy traditions and winter activities, featuring events like ski joring, snow sculptures, a night extravaganza with fireworks and the “Lighted Man,” and a parade with a high school band on skis. The carnival, hosted by the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, is a community-wide celebration designed to combat cabin fever and showcase the town’s unique Nordic heritage. 

The Ruby Hill Rail Yard is Denver’s free, urban terrain park for skiing and snowboarding. It’s located within Ruby Hill Park and offers features like rails, boxes, and jumps for riders of all skill levels. It’s a collaborative effort between Denver Parks and Recreation and Winter Park Resort. Free rental equipment (snowboards, boots, helmets) is available on select days. See website for more information.
